widenews desk: Opener Tamim Iqbal scored a brilliant century in the first day of two-day warm-up match and Bangladesh scored 391 for 7 at stumps against Sri Lankan Cricket President’s XI team on Thursday at De Zoysa Stadium, Moratuwa.
Invited to bat first by the Sri Lankan Cricket President’s XI, Bangladesh lost their opener Soumya Sarkar early for 9 after an opening stand of 29 runs. It was certainly a disappointing start for Soumya, who has been preferred ahead of regular opener Imrul Kayes.
Tamim Iqbal then pairing with first down Mominul Haque added a useful 143-run for the second wicket stand and again contributed another 75-run partnership with Mushfiqur Rahim (21) to guide Bangladesh to a commanding position. Mominul retired for 73 runs by striking 10 boundaries during his 103 balls stay on the crease.
The left-handed opener Tamim also retired on before completing a magnificent knock of 136 runs off 182 balls that contained nine boundaries and seven over boundaries.
Wicket keeper Liton Das and Taijul Islam remained unbeaten on 57 and 4 runs as the stumps were drawn for the day. Liton smashed 10 boundaries during his 64-ball stay on the crease.
Sri Lankan medium-pacer Chamika Karunaratne was the most successful bowler as he claimed three wickets giving away 61 runs.
