Flyover girder collapse at Malibagh: 1 died

widenews desk: A man was killed and two others were injured as a concrete girder of the under-construction Malibagh-Mouchak flyover collapsed on Malibagh level-crossing in the city early Monday. A construction engineer was injured there.

The deceased was identified as Swapan, 40, hailing from Kishoreganj’s Pakundia upazila. The two injured were Toma Group engineer Polash and Nurunnabi, believed to be a pedestrian.

Police and witnesses said the girder fell off the flyover’s two pillars on the level-crossing when a crane was placing another girder onto them around 1:50am, leaving three people seriously injured.

Local people rescued them from under the girder and took them to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where Swapan died. Two severed foots were seen lying under the collapsed girder.

Train communications from Kamalapur Railway Station with different parts of the county were suspended for nearly three and half hours following the order.
